Equipment

35mm Nikon

Throughout most of the day, 35 mm Nikon equipment is used. These cameras are durable and lightweight with the speed and accuracy to capture a fleeting glance or a passing moment.

These cameras are used with an array of lenses from wide angle to super telephoto, and are complemented by filters offering effects like soft focus, star lines peaking off of candles, or the light reflecting on a wedding ring.

These cameras are used for “get ready” photos, ceremony shots, arrival at the reception, and reception photos.

Bronica medium format

A Bronica medium format camera will be set up on a tripod for use during formal portraits at the church or second location. The medium-format camera is preferred for portrait photography due to its larger negative size. The medium-format negative is 2.7 times larger than a 35mm negative, which allows better resolution and quality for shots that are often made into larger prints.

Lighting

There is generally a light on each camera, used in concert with another portable light to provide the perfect lighting for each setting. At the reception site, another light is added to the lineup to aid in lighting the dance floor for photos. The additional lights are radio-transmitter controlled to eliminate excess cables. Gary uses a meter to detect exactly the right light setting, and also works with natural lighting to produce the best effects.
